The Cincinnati Paralegal Association would like to invite you to join us for our January General Membership meeting, which will take place on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 12:00 pm at the Taft Center.  We are excited to announce that our first speaker of the year will be Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Kim Burke.

Judge Burke presides over Hamilton County’s Drug Court, which is the first drug court in the State of Ohio, and one of the oldest drug courts in the United States. She has been Drug Court Judge since 2001 in the largest felony level drug court in Ohio, with over 400 persons being treated for substance abuse at any given time.

Ohio is among the top five states in the country for drug overdose deaths and Hamilton County has a higher rate than any other county. In the next seven days of the heroin epidemic, at least 180 people in Greater Cincinnati will overdose and 18 will die. Babies will be born to addicted mothers. Parents will go to jail. Children will end up in foster care. This is normal now.

The following article takes a closer look inside the heroin epidemic in Hamilton County and we strongly encourage you to read it, if you have not already done so.

Box Lunches from Chick-Fil-A will be available for purchase, which will include your choice of Chicken Sandwich or Wrap, along with a chocolate chip cookie and waffle fry potato chips.  The cost is $7.50 per boxed lunch. Your lunch order can be placed during registration. The deadline to register for this meeting is Friday, January 26, 2018.

We look forward to seeing you for our first meeting of the year!
